Mortar around the chimney pots
Flaunching is the shaped mortar around the chimney pots at the top of a stack. It helps shed rainwater away from the pots and masonry. Cracks, missing mortar or poor shaping can allow water into this exposed area.
Pieces of mortar falling from the chimney top can indicate damage.
Repair or renewal of the flaunching
We check the flaunching, the condition of the pots and the adjoining chimney top before setting out the repair or renewal. The quotation explains the area of work and any other defects found, rather than treating every chimney leak as a flaunching problem. Pointing repairs and roof-junction flashing are separate parts of the chimney.
